Donations to Charity (Our club at work)
Neil Cope recently visited the Riding for the Disabled centre at Yandina, this group of volunteers do a fantastic job helping disabled people. The therapy that is provided involves the student being led around the arena on horseback by a volunteer, the forward, backward and side to side motion of the horse helps create linking in the brain and in doing so the person’s co-ordination, balance, sensory development and speech development improve. Other benefits include confidence, posture and muscle tone. The President, Matty Sormani, and volunteer co-ordinator Jan O’Halloran (also a NBCCC member) explained that they have to vacate the property they currently use as the owner has plans for the site. They are in the process of negotiating to buy their own property nearby, so in the interim while they arrange finance they have cancelled classes until they have possession of the new property. Our cheque for $1000 was welcomed and they said they would put towards the acquisition of their new property. If there are any members out there who have surplus funds they wish to donate to a worthy cause, the RDA group at Yandina could certainly put it to good use at the present. If you can help contact the RDA Yandina 07 5319 8117 – note the office is only staffed part-time so leave a message and someone will get back to you.
